I have been a regular at Farzi for more than a year and have liked both the concept and the food. Farzi café is about instilling glamour to simple ingredients and pumping up the simple things in life what we all call soul food. Be it daal chawal and making it into Arancini or a simple 10 Rupee Maggi and pumping it up to a Posh Maggi with Duck liver as Foie gras which I had last time I went to Farzi and loved it.
What makes the food and service even more unique and interesting is the way that the food is served – like they serve their Paan in a book shaped case, or the burgers in a jewellery box or using the typewriter for presenting the bill, it cant get more unique and different than this. I have always maintained that Farzi café is a gastronomic discovery, a change from the usual Dal roti, butter chicken, pizza- pasta herd of restaurants mushrooming as we speak.
Yesterday was the Ist day of the Navratra's. Navaratri, or Nine days of special religious significance among Hindus, and it comes twice a year, during which many people fast for all 9 days. Some people go to the extent of following a strict schedule food, wise which includes NONG (no onion no garlic) avoiding rice, wheat, meat, normal iodised salt and even alcohol. However foodies will always be foodies who would want to go and eat out. So today most Hotels and restaurants have redesigned menus to cater to people who would be following a strict food regimen during Navratri's.
I know we are all bored of trying the usual Navratra Thali's with the Samak ke Chawal and Kuttu ki roti and the mundane food. So what does a foodie who is fasting do? Simple, Visit Farzi Cafe in Gurgaon and get ready to be blown away by this spectacular and a very very different menu, prepared specially for Navratri. The menu lifts regular ingredients from our regular lives to another level creating some mind blowing unthinkable spectacular Navratri Creations. This menu is being served from 13th-21st October and is unlike anything else you would have eaten across town.
Farzi Chef's live up to the promise of progressive Indian cuisine which reflects in each dish on the menu and I can bet your palate will be pleasantly surprised. I was in Cyber hub yesterday with a friend and even though we had decided to have a Navratra thali at one of the Indian restaurant's we still thought we'd give the Navratra Menu at Farzi a try.
The meal started with the smoky nitrogeny amuse- bouche which basically is a shreekhand shot and is something I have always loved, whenever I dine at Farzi. Then came the starters with Arbi ki Galawat, roasted Lotus Seed and Sabudana Crisp and Buckwheat Taco's. OMG! The Arbi ki Galawat was mesmerizing and I cant stop raving about the Buckwheat Taco's. I absolutely adored the filling of the Tacos.
For the mains we had a unique dish that one wouldn't even imagine and it swept me off my feet. I had the sabudana risotto with a gentle water chestnut crunch in it which was spectacular. The Aaloo Tamatar sabzi with the crisp Kuttu Poori's were really nice.
Dessert however was the star of my meal. I absolutely adored the Makhane ki Kheer which underneath had a bed of assorted fruits. The Kheer was oh so thick and was again served with a smoky Hollywood effect which enhanced its eye appeal.
The Lauki ka Halwa had a spectacular presentation. Loved the caramel toffee twist used as a topping. The Singhada and dry fruit crumble had been frozen and when it was sprinkled on the lauki ka halwa, all the components came together to create a mind blowing dessert.
Guys, the menu is a treat to the foodie inside of all of us. So don't wait, just drop in at Farzi and prepare to be pampered.
