What do you do when you have khao suey cravings and you know the entire world is going to your neighbourhood Burmese restaurant called Burma Burma. And your husband is not willing to drive to cyber hub in traffic and your friends aren't sweet enough to accompany you to Burma Burma to Satiate your Khao suey cravings???????? Simple.........You cook Khao suey at home and tease the ones who went without you.

I tried my version and it is this Eazy peezy recipe with very simple ingredients and guess what i rocked at it. Turns out i can really cook . It turned out marvellous.

For most of us Khao suey isnt alien and for others Khao Suey is a Burmese Dish more like a soup with 5 to 7 different elements used as a garnish. Made it for dinner tonight and now I can go to sleep peacefully. Presenting below my version of Khao Suey, hope you like the recipe and make it for yourself and your loved ones at home.

So all you need is -

  • 400ml coconut milk
  • one medium onion
  • one small garlic
  • half cup peanuts
  • 2 green chillies chopped
  • 2 whole red kashmiri chillies
  • 3 table spoons ginger garlic paste
  • a handful of Cilantro or spring onions
  • 2 lemons
  • a fistful of basil
  • half cup noodles
  • Salt to taste
  • one teaspoon turmeric
Method -

Fry the onions and garlic till golden brown keep aside. Heat oil in a broad bottomed pan. Add the whole red chilli, ginger garlic and basil. Sauté for 2 minutes and add basil , salt & turmeric. Then add the coconut milk. When it starts to thicken add some water depending on the thickness of the soup you desire. For others at home you can add noodles but for yourself us grated papaya as a substitute . Serve the soup in a bowl full of raw papaya and garnish with all ingredients and squeeze some lemon juice on top and you are good to go.
