‘Africa Magica’ – the African food festival at Barbeque Nation

We have all loved the pioneer of the table barbecue concept Barbeque Nation for as long as I can remember. We have literally grown from teenagers to middle aged thriving on their awesome food, and competition has copied their superb concept too and are doing decent business copying the concept of this Market leader.
Barbeque nation has set an example in the food and beverage industry of serving top notch food in a great ambiance coupled with top notch service. You know, what's astounding is that their policy is not to accept tips, yet their service is so so personalised and so spotless that one is completely blown away.
I visited them for a family dinner last week only to realize that they have launched an awesome summer food festival where one can take a mini trip to take African Safari through the jungles of Africa with ‘Africa Magica’ – the African food festival. What's even more awesome is that they have given the outlet a complete makeover. The entrance seems like the mouth of  roaring lion - the king of the jungle. There are cave patterns, artefacts and bushes and leaves all around to give the place a completely African Feel. If you have seen new Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore movie - Blended Shot in South Africa, you would know What I mean.
What's even more super is that there are Tattoo & Face Painting artists who will do African based non permanent tattoos & face paintings. They have even given the staff a complete African make over with some awesome crisp African styled Uniforms and the serving staff looks world class and all ready to do what they do best - Service with a smile. So you are all set to experience the Wonders of the African Safari in your own city.
All 9 outlets of Barbeque nation are hosting this festival till 10th of May 2015, so you can still catch it. The menu has an array of lip smacking dishes all set to give you an unforgettable culinary experience. What's even more interesting is that Delhi as a market doesn't have many African restaurants, so what Barbeque Nation has attempted is quite commendable.
My family had a great time and we were floored by the food and they won us over as expected by the service.

Average meal for two: Rs 1600

Barbeque nation has even revamped the menu for the food festival and included Non vegetarian African inspired dishes. The menu is very elaborate and very extensive with lots of food to satiate your senses.

The non veg dishes that really swept us off our feet were :
  • Jollof Rice– a popular West African delicacy that is made with African rice, tomatoes, onions, spices, cumin and hot red pepper
  • Tanzanian Shabbat Fish – a traditional African fish dish made with a blend of Mediterranean spices and olive oil
  • PiriPiri Tangdi –  the world famous Piri Piri Sauce has been mixed to make the PiriPiri (made with African Bird's Eye Chilli) Chicken, which is one preparation that will really stand out from Africa’s Mozambique region.
  • Galinha Crab - A new version, green spice gravy cooked with the perfection along with crab
What's even more interesting is that the vegetarians need not feel left out because an exclusive well planned vegetarian menu is all set to woo you as well. The veg menu has African influenced preparations and I was really impressed by each of them especially :-
  • Butternut and Shallot Soup – a subtle rich and a velvety creamy soup mixed with golden fried shallots and chilli peppers that enhance the flavour of the pumpkin perfectly in the soup
  • Mixed Vegetables in Adobo Sauce – raw vegetables soaked in a stock of paprika, oregano, salt, garlic and vinegar that preserve and enhance the flavour.
  • Ambo Tovve - Yellow dal with a dash of mango punch into it.
  • Cous Cous Stuffed Tomatoes - Traditionally African dish stuffed with couscous and served with white sauce

For dessert what stands out most is:-

Malwa Pudding – is made with apricot jam and served with hot custard and ice-cream. This is your perfect end to an awesome meal.

Here's Sam's snap shot of the menu.
