What Rosang is today; I say is only thanks to one lady - Mary Lalboi, the owner. Her drive, her passion to promote the food and culture of north eastern India is commendable clubbed with the fact that she uses authentic and fresh herbs and vegetables some of which she imports from North east.
The cafe is fairly new, but she knows her food, every ingredient, and detailing is phenomenal. I had been dying to try this place, and finally me and my friends raided Rosang one evening. Mary was sweet enough to reserve a table for us and she recommended what we must order. The ambiance is beautiful, simple and uncomplicated. Nothing flashy, very earthy and welcoming. The place is full of local pictures of customs, people, places and cultures.
Mary made this north eastern food journey very unique and very soul stirring. This is what we ordered.
Iromba (Manipur)- BELOW- a paste mish mash of potatoes, fermented fish and traditional spices is is so earthy in flavour and complements other dishes.
Masor Logot Khorisa (Assamese Fish) BELOW - Fantastically done. So rich, in flavour, that it ignites your senses. The bambooshoot just brings out the flavour of the fish in a very unique way.
Arsa Chhum - (Mizo)- BELOW- this zero oil, herb infused chicken dish was super awesome. The lemon leaves I must add, add a unique zing to the chicken.
DOHNEIIHONG (Meghalaya)- BELOW--this unique pork dish from Meghalaya cooked in black sesame paste was the dish of the day for me. This slow cooked pork was to die for. The black sesame makes the pork a wondrous creation of God. A fantastic Dish
Wild Red Rice- BELOW - A very unique red colored rice, that enhanced the culinary experience.
Wild Red Rice tea - BELOW- Well, not flavorful, for me, but somehow is a great item to end your gala meal with.
Guys, you have to try Rosang, If you are a vegetarian, this may not be the best place for you. But if you are a carnivore, you are in for a treat.
