Had been fishing for an opportunity to visit Big Wing and so far destiny had deprived me of a single visit to Big Wong. I was in Baani Square browsing for restaurants to have dinner and I visited Legends first only to find that they hadn't put up their salad bar. Then went to Organic express which seemed a little lull and slow. So me and my friend unanimously thought of having oriental food since we had a movie to catch post dinner.
We were instantly reminded that we had a big Wong next door so we went and found ourselves a table at Big Wong. This outlet is pretty small with limited seating but the ambiance is more contemporary than oriental. We browsed through the menu and I liked the fact that they haven't over done the menu. The menu is concise and had the basic oriental and Chinese dishes one usually likes to order. So we stuck to our traditional order as well. We ordered a portion of Mushroom dimsums with Thai herbs, mixed greens with bok choy and spinach with extra tofu and a portion of chilli garlic noodles. We decided to top our meal with a fresh cold pressed watermelon juice as well.
The dimsums arrived. It breaks my heart that the veg dim sums tasted delicious but were COLD. Its an insult to such tasty dimsums to be served and eaten cold. Their outer coating was nice and thin but the fact that they were cold killed their taste. I had to ask the server to reheat them.
Then came the noodles and the mixed greens with tofu in oyster sauce. This combo was divine. I am definitely coming back for this combination. The fresh juice was nice but I have a feeling it was just on the verge of going bad as it tasted slightly bitter.
The bill was a miniscule 1200 bucks and barring the dimsums we enjoyed our meal. The service was pretty decent and so we're the meal portions and pricing. I am going to give them another try with the only hope of getting served piping hot dim sums next time.
