Minar as a word has many meanings in Urdu and Arabic, and primarily means a tower of a tall building. But the tower of today's Minar restaurant doesn't stand that tall. Minar in GK is a not so spacious and a not so pretty restaurant. If you can overlook the dull ambience & appearance, you'll find that the food is not bad. The pricing is pretty ok, but they fail to deliver on portion sizes.
When I entered I was expecting a very Moughal or may be Arabic ambience, look and feel, but that was certainly not the case. I think they need to walk the talk too. But it seems to be a true no-frills joint, catering to the kukkad lovers of GK. The food is decently good and authentic, but the drab mundane decor just minimizes an otherwise good food experience. But my recommendation - Don't be intimidated by the no-frills atmosphere, just order and enjoy the food.
I was out for lunch with a friend today and this is what we had:-
Screwdriver - You did it just right. Wanted to order a cosmopolitan though, sadly wasn't on your menu, but was very happy with the outcome, perfect cocktail, very balanced, no overdose of either Vodka or orange juice. Thumbs up!
Tandoori Chicken - Very healthy, non greasy, real tandoori chicken. Was happy that the chicken was not over infused with tandoori masala to overpower the taste and kill the actual flavour of chicken. Loved the tender, juicy and soft kukkad.
Paneer Makhani - Great gravy, mild, and subtle in flavour. Only that the portion size was less
Garlic Naan - Best I have ever had.. It was sort of a garlic infused naan, not like the usual ones with a topping of garlic.
All in all please don't expect the place to be as magnificent as Qutub minar and you'll be just fine with the meal experience
