Stage-2--Tour De Rajasthan---- Stay at Jodhpur

After the Masala Chai we headed for an early Lunch at Jharokha a roof top restaurant at Hotel Haveli, in old Jodhpur which offers amazing regional Rajasthani food. So since we were very hungry we tried the Rajasthani Thali in candle light overlooking the beautiful Mehrangarh Fort. The Thali had Ker Sangri, Chana, Rice, bikaneri Roti, dal and some sabji. The Thali was ok, not that great. So we retired for the day and decided to have breakfast at the Fort the next day.

My husband made me walk uphill for about 4 kms to the Mehrangarh Fort and trust me the climb was worthwhile, the fort is oh so breathtakingly beautiful, with high ceilings, beautiful arches, great architecture all across the monument. A must visit place while you are in Jodhpur.

Interestingly the fort has a great cafe – Cafe Mehran, and I savoured on a Juicy Chicken burger and some fresh lime, while my husband had a Ham sandwich. A great well maintained cafe, with such a great Staff, does give you a royal feeling of being pampered by Royalty. If you are in this Fort do try the Cafe Mehran, for some awesome food . The cafe has a great ambience and some reasonable food served in the ambience of this palace Cafe. Do check out the Cafe Mehran pics.

After the 4Km walk back to the hotel, we rested for a while then headed straight to try some local Food. I strongly recommend you try this place if you are in Jodhpur- Indique Ristorante in Pal Haveli, Old Jodhpur. The restaurant actually is in a Haveli and the roof top has a great view, you could choose to be seated inside or in the open. Do check out the view from the restaurant its beautiful.

So both me and my husband were all geared up to try the Laal Maans, a famous local mutton curry and some Bikaneri Mushrooms. The order arrived pretty swiftly and my god the Mutton was lip smacking, so great, so yumm, so awesome, that I melted while I tasted the Lal Maans. The mushrooms were great too, but the Lal Maans was the dish of the day for me.

After the heavy meal we headed to the Umaid Bhawan Palace which is now a hotel, occupied by the Taj group. The palace is beautiful, but don’t burn your blood if you don’t see this palace while you are in Jodhpur. The hotel occupies 95% space and no tourist unless he is a resident is allowed on that side of the palace, so if you are willing to shell out Rs 35000/- per night you are most welcome to stay at the Umed Bhawan palace, a Taj hotel, and I am sure the stay will be worth each dime you spend.

I wanted to try some great street food so post the palace I called up my Father in Law who had served a 3 year posting while he was posted in Jodhpur, he told us we must not miss Mishrilal hotel’s Lassi. Interestingly this place has won the certificate of Excellence from Tripadvisor India. The Lassi was nice, but a little too sweet for me, but his Mirchi Wada and Kachaudi was nice. Another place you must not miss while in Jodhpur. This place is close to the Indique Ristorante in Old Jodhpur area.

After the great Lassi, I got a call from an old college friend, who later came over to our hotel and it was so great to catch up with him and his lovely wife. Thanks Mrinal we had a great time with you both.

We slept late, all geared for another 300km long drive to Kumbhalgarh, but we decided to precede this journey with a gala breakfast in Jodhpur itself, Where did we head next to?
