Sam’s craving for Laal Maans and Ker Sangri on her Jodhpur trip this winter, drew her to Indique, located on the 2nd floor at Pal Haveli in Old Jodhpur. I googled the place and lonely planet strongly recommended them for having the best Laal Maans in the city, so without much a do Sam and her husband marched towards Pal Haveli.
Located at about 5 minute walk from the Clock Tower near old jodhpur, Pal Haveli is a magnificent heritage property offering lodging and dining facilities to travellers. It overlooks the Gulab Sagar and the Mehrangarh Fort, and has dining space both indoors and an open air roof top restaurant. The view from the roof top is quite a sight. One can see the palatial Mehrangarh Fort while sipping a glass of wine or the soothing Gulaab saagar on the terrace. They also have folk and music performances by dancers and musicians on some particular days in a week. Only minus is that the staircase leading up to the roof top is quite steep and cramped but the climb up is worth it as the view is simply superbly awesome.
I visited them for lunch and was quite impressed by the ambiance and the great view of the Old Jodhpur city from the terrace bar. One would certainly feel while glancing through the menu that they are charging quite a premium for the items they provide, but the experience makes it all worthwhile. The ambiance is very pleasing and somehow gives a sort of a sacred feeling sitting here. The table cloths and the table napkins happen to be traditional Rajasthani and the staff is dressed in traditional attire. I hear that the place is quite a hit especially amongst the foreign tourists.
Service was flawless and so was the food. We ordered the Laal Maans which is a non veg meat Traditional Rajasthani delicacy and Bikaneri mushrooms. I was longing to have Ker Sangri, but they broke my heart when they told us that Ker Sangri was not available. The Laal Maans as expected was oily and sinful, but the taste was superb. The whole pieces of Garlic cloves just enhanced the taste and the mushrooms were so flavoursome. We had a very heavy sinful lunch and hogged to our hearts fill.
Would definitely recommend and would love to go back. When ever you are in Jodhpur, and looking for a fine evening out, Indique is the place to be. Great food matched with great ambience and great service standards, makes Indique a Winner.
Post Lunch we headed back to the hotel for an afternoon siesta and packed our bags to leave for Kumbalgarh the next day. Stay tuned for my onward journey to Kumbalgarh
