Amreli : The Promising New Eat Lighter and Think Lighter Refreshing Summer Menu 4/5

Amreli, at the Hotel  Diplomat has successfully filled the big shoes of Olive beach and really well, if I might add. And I maintain that Amreli is doing full justice to the mark that the Predecessor has left on the palates of Delhiites. Amreli is one of my favourite Chic and Classy fine Dine spots in the city. It is a great combination of all ingredients one looks for in a classy place - flavorful food, cozy setting, striking ambience, great Al-fresco Seating and a prime location in the lush diplomatic neighbourhood to top it all.

This was my second visit to the restaurant and was catching up with a friend and I ended up trying Chef Amit Naithani's and Chef Saby's very contemporary and unconventional, new Summer Menu. The menu has an amazing selection of lighter meals that one especially looks for during these warm months. All the dishes are fantastic innovations of some original authentic favorites. I can close my eyes and say that the menu clear winner. Summer season can play a havoc with ones system so a lighter meal without an overdoze of oil and spices is just what one needs. The menu at Amreli is what one needs to survive the heat of the sun.

The summer menu at Amreli promises to please the palates of a wide range of diners with varied taste preferences, including vegetarians because the menu has some amazing gluten-free dishes too. The menu lives up completely to its theme that you eat lighter and think lighter. There are some amazing new additions to the usual menu and the portions are great too and what's even more inviting is that the dishes are priced well. And most importantly the food tastes phenomenal.

The service of Amreli is spotless. The wait staff is very friendly, courteous, and are around with a watchful eye when you need them - always a nice touch in a restaurant one has high expectations from. We arrived during the late hours of the evening and they seated us, brought us the menus, recommended what we must order (and I am glad they picked out the best dishes for us) and the orders arrived well on time – Everything went on so seamlessly, I was  really really impressed. And let me tell you, I am very hard to please.

The complete meal is a musical ritual with playful notes of a healthy Tamarind and Pomelo salad at the beginning which is a mesmerizing mix of highly refreshing and colorful fruits and vegetables and the peanuts add that required zing in the salad. Cucumber, melon, Watermelon and Pomelo in a sweet and balanced dressing really set you in the mood for the dishes coming up ahead. The Roasted Pepper and Onion Bruchetta really lifts your spirits and one is blown away by the comfort food like Curd rice with a Twist. The menu has some interesting and attractive additions like the Spiced Scrambled eggs, Staff Canteen Anda Paratha and loved how they served the Curd rice with the papaddams - truly unique.

The Summer Menu brings you a lot of greens and promises to impress you with some low cal non sinful food. I reckon its one of the best Summer menu's on offer in the city I have tasted this Summer.

I have always loved their way bill of presenting the bill. The bill arrived in a cutting Chai glass stand with 6 glasses containing 6 different items – Home made Peanut Gajjak, cute miniature Coconut Ladoo’s, toothpicks, chocolate sauce coated chocos, white chocolate sauce coated choco’s and the bill in the 6th one. Truly unique and very very cute. The coconut Ladoos were Phenomenal by the way.

So coming down to taste, this is what we had. :

Tamarind Pomelo Salad : The salad is a mesmerizing mix of highly refreshing and colorful fruits and vegetables and the peanuts add that required zing in the salad. Cucumber, melon, Watermelon and Pomelo in a sweet and balanced dressing really set you in the mood for the dishes coming up ahead.

Chunkey Seekh Kebab : Ah! soft, juicy and succulent kebabs melting in your mouth is something every non vegetarians can kill for. And these chunkies are definitely to die or to kill for.

Flamed Chilli Chutney Paneer: These buttery creamy well marinated Paneer Diamonds are fabulous. Loved the presentation.

Amreli Curd Rice: Loved the presentation and blown away by the way they served the Curd rice with the papaddams - truly unique and taste absolutely soul satiating. A must have dish this summer.
Staff Canteen Anda Paratha: Loved how this was served sprinkled with Gun powder and with an exceptional Aaloo ki sabji and mint chutney. Nice and crisp paratha will make your day. What's note worthy however is there is no overdoze of oil or Ghee on the Paratha
Spiced Scrambled Eggs: My husband loved the masala Scrambled eggs served with brioche made inhouse. A great dish
Chicken and Cheese Bake -  I recommend you have this dish if you are really hungry. Even though its a bit on the heavier side, the taste however is divine. Very Sinful but you will love it.
