Wendy's World's 3rd Largest Hamburger Chain - #WendysIndia

At a time when Beef is off the racks Wendy's - American Hamburger Chain and the 3rd Largest in the world has made its entry into India. Joining the league of other QSR's like Burger King, Mc Donald's, KFC and the like Wendy's is all set to carve a niche for itself in the cut throat QSR segment.

The first India outlet debut's at the happening sector 29 Market in Gurgaon and there are more outlets definitely on the cards. They plan to open at least 20 more outlets in 2016. They will soon open in Cyber Hub and Noida. Sierra Nevada Restaurants Pvt. Ltd owns the  franchise of Wendy’s in India, and is being managed by Sanjay Chhabra who is the Director, Wendy’s India and Mr Jasper Reid.

Wendy’s was founded in 1969 by Dave Thomas in the United States. Statistics say that by 1999, Wendy’s had become the third largest hamburger food chain rubbing shoulders with the QSR Leaders like McDonald’s and Burger King. Wendy's today operates out of more than 25 countries!

Food Guru's like Mr. Sourish Bhattacharyya say that Wendy's may just change the way we relate to Burgers and Sandwiches. What might set them apart is their menu. But well for the first time they have decided to drop Beef from the Menu. The vegetarian's are bound to go home happy because there are as many vegetarian options as there are non vegetarian options. Vegetarians will have options ranging from spinach-and-corn burgers to the standard potato patty burgers. Six options in vegetarian burgers and the Meat lovers can choose from nine chicken and two lamb burgers. However they say that the menu is subject to changes any time.

Wendy’s in India will also have a bacon Burger on their menu in the form of what they call the Baconator - their world famous bacon burger that they will serve using chicken cutlets instead of beef. I hear that they have specially developed a soft Brioche Bun for their burgers in India, that they will use for all the burgers. And did you know that Wendy's trademark square patties sets their burgers apart from those at McDonald’s and Burger King.

After Wendy's, we hear that US burger chain Carl's Jr to enter India soon but till then let us enjoy the juiciness of the Baconators, the Ghost Chilli and Ultimate Paneer.

We had a chance to visit this flagship outlet at sec 29 before they open to general public on 6th May, and the outlet seemed really impressive. It can easily cater to a walkin of 60-70 covers and still seem calm during peak hours. Besides the burgers they also serve some amazing sandwiches and some awesome drinks that they call Fruitales and sides.

What Sam liked about Wendy's

  • I do not like to stand in line for picking and eating my Burger. I can have the Burger delivered hot and steaming on my table without having to wait in line for it'
  • I am fortunate to have loads of friends but unfortunately most of them are vegetarians, now I can go with a peaceful mind and enjoy a great meal without them complaining that the menu gave them a raw deal
  • The square buns and the square patties are their USP thus ensuring the patty is even cooked.
  • Love the fact that they serve Salads and great sides for the health conscious thus positioning themselves differently than the other QSR's
  • Not the usual cola's they serve what they call Fruitales. A great change from the regular stuff.
  • Pricing is quite pocket friendly. Us non vegetarians can enjoy Gourmet tasting burgers for the price of a QSR burger.

Amongst the interesting things we tried were

  • Ultimate Paneer Burger - Amazingly thick Paneer patty. A great choice for Paneer Lovers
  • Paneer Salsa - Chunks of Paneer with Salsa instead of a patty. A yumm Paneer  Burger
  • Spicy Aaloo Crunch - Made with special breed of Potatoes tasted real nice.
  • Ghost chilli - A nice Spicy Chicken Burger.
  • Double Baconator - Wendy's signature for bacon lovers with a great blend of chicken and bacon
  • Ultimate Mutton - Actually true to its name the patty is ultimate and juicy and really a treat for mutton lovers.
  • Chicken Ranch Salad - Nice chunkies of chicken with greens , tomatoes in a light dressing
  • Chicken Chilli Sides - A nice Chicken and kidney bean gravy
  • Watermelon cooler and Cherry Cola - These drinks are to die for. Really different than the usual bandwagon of drinks at major QSR's
