Potbelly - The Bihari Cuisine restaurant - What a Let down - 2/5

All Hype no Substance is what I can say about this place.

After seeing to many recommendations for the place in Shahpurjat which is an upcoming new area for new cafe’s and restro’s, me and my friend made a plan to visit it along with many other cafe’s in the Shahpurjat area.

Well! no offence to the taste and palate of other foodies and reviewers, and I completely understand that what gels with my palate may not gel with someone elses and vice versa.

The place was easy to locate without much a do. But the climb up was oh so killing. We forgot how many floors we had climbed and it didn’t seem what we had expected the minute we entered the place. They have a kitchen one level below and honestly the set doesn’t seem one of the best. If a restaurant like this was abroad with such an exposed kitchen, exposed to general public we mean, we are not sure whether people would even want to visit it.

We went to potbelly since it has won many awards from many prominent websites and we were exited to try bihari cuisine for the Ist time. But it was really a bad experiance as the place was overpriced as compared to the portion sizes served and on the 4th floor having such a narrow staircase.

Insides of the cafe seemed quite colourful, however not much thought has been given to make the interiors very catchy, even though the owners have tried using vibrant colours but, fails to impress.

We sat and started looking for someone to take our order. And we certainly thought that we had landed on a wrong planet when we were not attended for more than 20 minutes. It was dull sunday and most of the places around were closed and the restaurant wasn’t even full, yet we wondered what was wrong.

Finally a waiter attended us and we wanted to order the famous Litti Chokha. To our shock, they told us that they hadn’t prepared either litti chokha or Aam Panna. No Litti Chokha in a Bihari restaurant??? You must be kidding me. Finally we ordered:--

Keema aaloo Chop
Baggia Basket
Pakoda Basket
Aalo McLalu Chop
Dehati Fish and Chips
Peanut butter Shake
Salt Lasssi

Vegetarian fOOD Verdict--

The food was a disaster and it was bland.

A small stall in noida sector 18 market makes better litti chokha only for Rs 20 and potbelly charges you Rs 220. Ha ha! The peanut butter shake was nice, but the Aalo Chop was disasterous, such a small quantity for such a bug price tag! Pass! Pakoda Basket literally had 4 pieces of pakodas, sabudana vada with some chutney and costed 150 bucks, another disaster. Baggia basket another exorbitant item was bland beyond comprehension.

I didn’t care to order main course.

My non Veg verdict---

Keema Aaloo Chop should be called Aaloo Keema Chop because it just had Aaloo, I was struggling to find the keema. Funny! And next time I want to pay 200 bucks for a couple of pieces of pseudo Keema aaloo tikki with some Pao, I would want to shoot myself.

Salt lassi was fine. Dehati fish and Chips was a very average item. Fish was ok, could not taste the spices / marinade on it as they claim. The so called chips / aaloo ki sabji had some Aaloo pieces which were semi raw. Tragic!

I didn’t care to order mains either. Trust me- Only the pictures are nice, or should I say, we got awesome camera's

Honestly both of us thought that its better to skip this one.
