Cafe Ludus - MGF Metropolitan Mall, Saket - 3.5/5 (I visited before it recently got closed)

Another great party place in the city which got shut. Wonder Why? But it was a great place and do read my fond memories of the place.

I won a discount voucher for Café Ludus (I visited before it recently got closed) at a contest and was so excited to visit the place especially in this city with seemingly unlimited options for everything, and a particularly diverse set of dining options, but I still wondered why this restaurant gets to be a big deal.

Wikipedia says, that in ancient Roman culture, the Latin word ludus has several meanings within the semantic field of "play, game, sport, training" The word ludus also referred to a training school for gladiators. Ludus was also the word for a board game, a game played with knucklebones. And as kids I am sure most of us at one time or the other did play the game.

Café Ludus comes up as very Classy, sophisticated, very upmarket, and catering to the clubbing junta in South Delhi. The setting is delightful, Look no further when in MGF metrololitan. It's a hybrid of a cafe – lounge and a restaurant. Café Ludus is something you must experience. The ambience is genuinely unique, kind of like hanging out at a rural American-style backyard BBQ and they do all the cooking themselves. Even though they have cabana’s outside, but considering the heat of the season, I choose to be seated inside.

From the opening to the closing hours there are all kinds of different food choices, international fare, hamburgers, pizza’s etc. They all taste good, presented in a pleasant manner. Different kinds of alcohol and cocktails are on the offer all day long. And for the kind of cost one has to pay for the food, foods nice. However Location is the only drawback of the place. I visited on a Saturday; the place was sparsely occupied by youngsters considering that this place caused a furor upon opening; however it seems the hype has since calmed down. But should you choose to splurge, this is the place to do it. With the vaulted Art Deco ceilings, impeccable service, and finely crafted dishes that look too beautiful to eat, and smell too good, the overall experience is practically foolproof. And I don’t mean that sarcastically.

With a menu inspired by American & European philosophy, interiors modeled like a chic lounge, you're in for a truly serene experience. The Chef celebrates American & contemporary European cuisines in all of their glory, incorporating all aspects of the multiple cuisines and only serving the patrons a great set menu to ensure a balanced experience. The result is gorgeous plates of meticulously arranged dishes with great eye appeal which will leave even your omnivore friends in awe.

Following the foot steps and recommendations of our fellow foodies and my gut I chose to eat the following :-

Chicken Casanova – Crisp, and perfect crunchy battered coating, these chicken sticks were better than boneless chicken strips of KFC. The delectable dip simply brings out the flavor of the chicken. A few bites, and you’ll understand why this chicken item is approaching a legendary status. Definitely “Dish of the day for me”

Cheese sticks - Forget your cholesterol for a day, and order yourself cheese sticks that are simply to die for. And come with some nice dips too

Navajos Nachos – Great tasting Mexican Tortilla’s dipped in generous helpings of melted mozzarella cheese, served with the authentic salsa dip.

Half Margarieta Half Primavera Pizza – Great, authentic thin crust Italian pizza with asparagus, artichokes, mushrooms and yes great quality melting in your mouth mozarella cheese. Only one complain that he brought the pizza that we ordered for main course with the starters, so by the time we arrived at eating the pizza, the pizza was cold, and the base was semi hard. What a waste of a pizza which would otherwise have tasted great.

Music – Too loud for an afternoon lunch, but I don’t blame them there was a birthday party of a teenager who had turned 16. A suggestion, they could have played better songs however.

Also the Mirrors in the Loo deserve a special mention, they were too cute, I am attaching a pic of the mirrors too. They were made as the 2 glasses of shades (or goggles or dark glasses whatever you want to call them)
