SAM'S RECIPE - HOME MADE TACO’S


My mother in law is the inspiration for making taco’s at home, ever since her Europe trip last year she has been experimenting with western and European cuisine influences. So this year about for almost a month she had been wanting to have home made Taco’s. I was in ambience mall last Sunday and I entered Godrej Nature’s Basket where I saw a box of ready made Taco Shells and I jumped at the very Ist box I saw and grabbed one along with some nice seasonal salad veggies. 

Well, most cities in India, including Delhi, do not have a Taco Bell outlet yet, and since Taco bell has made its entry into India, so why must we be deprived of the pleasure of eating this healthy fast food item. And specially in the walls of our own house. 

Taco is simply a Mexican tortilla shell, it could either be a corn tortilla or a wheat tortilla, and is eaten with fillings of meat, veggies, and garnishes of salsa, or other sauces and dips. Presenting Sam’s Taco recipe, quantity you will have to decide, depending on the number of shells you want to fill for taco’s. My recipe is for 10 shells:- 

Ingredients 

Taco Shells – ready made (I am taking a short cut)

Ingredients For the salad filling:-

5 pieces Baby corn, Slit lengthwise, and roasted on a pan/grill 2-3 min each side

1 big CARROT cut in juliennes, even batons will work
1 Cucumber cut in batons
7-8 Olives, sliced or chopped
1 medium orange skin removed and de-seeded (Pulp) chopped
1 medium capsicum chopped
2 medium onions, sliced
10 small lettuce leaves, preferably iceberg lettuce
(You could also add boiled / roasted meat or chicken or fish if you want, I am keeping it vegetarian)

Ingredients For the Dressing:-

Mayonnaise – 3 tea spoons

Jalapeneo sauce / green chilli sauce – 4 teaspoons
Extra virgin Olive oil – 2 teaspoons
Dried Basil – 1 tea spoon
Crushed garlic – 1 tea spoon
Salt and crushed black pepper to taste
Peanuts – 2 teaspoon, chopped
1 teaspoon vinegar

Method : - 

Mix all veggies in a salad bowl (minus the lettuce leaves). Mix all ingredients of the dressing in a separate bowl, and fold in the veggies in the salad bowl. Take a taco shell, spread a lettuce leaf and then pour in and fill the salad filling. You could also put boiled chicken or fish as per your choice in the filling, but I chose to keep it vegetarian. After the filling goes in, your Taco is ready to serve and ready to eat. Bon Appetit!
