Taco Bell - Failed to impress - 2.5/5

I was excited when I heard Taco Bell had opened their flagship outlet in Bangalore. And when they opened in Delhi, I could not wait and jumped at the opportunity to visit them and taste the goodies of the world's largest Mexican-style QSR chain. Even though fast food is not an integral part of Indian culture yet once in a while we do like to munch a KFC hot and crispy chicken or a slice of Dominos Farm house Pizza. Also in America fast food caters to the economically  lower end of the population in USA vis-a-vis India, because a trip for two to Mc Donalds today means nothing short of 500-700 bucks.

Taco Bell, has tied up with Burman Hospitality and their expansion plans in India are pretty aggressive. They are targeting to open an average of atleast 1 restaurant per month in the next 18-24 months. As it is the Indian fast food craving population is not exposed that much to the Taco's and Burrito's, so they just might have an edge over other new entrants like Burger King or Wendy's or even Fat burger since they are offering a whole new different product. Taco Bell worldwide has defined itself by following a lower cost strategy and I do give them credit for launching all products on the India menu at a fairly decent price range.

I was excited to try Mexican inspired Fast food at Taco when I visited them. A Taco Bell taco, has a crispy corn shell containing pounded meat, veggies and cheese, and the Americans consider it a wondrous creation of American engineering. Well, its not Science we want to eat people. Doesn't it all boil down to taste?

I was at Taco Bell last week with my cousinand in excitement I ordered almost all items from the menu, only to have all my excitement fizzle out. The order was taken pretty swiftly at the counter. We ordered a whole lot of food. We began with a 7 layer Chicken Burrito, Cheezy double decker Chalupa, Crunchy Chicken Taco Supreme; Chicken Nacho supreme and a chicken Quesadilla.

Thats a whole lot of food you might think, but the portion sizes are as less as their prices hence so much food seemed ok.

The 7 layer Chicken Burrito was quite filling with rice and chipotle sauce and chicken, and was the only thing on the menu which atleast tasted great. Nacho's were fairly ok too, just that some pieces seemed soggy and not crisp, even the ones without topping. The taco was sad, could not taste the filling in it and the Chalupa was a drag. The quesadilla made me cry, I have definitely had better ones in the past.

All in all, not a great place to enjoy great food. But yes if you are on a tight budget and price conscious, and want to grab a quick bite simply to fill your belly, this might be the place for you.
