Stage - 6 - Junta sweets Jodhpur & the drive to Kumbhalgarh

It was a warm, bright sunny day and we checked out,of the hotel stuffed our luggage in the car and while driving to Kulbalgarh we decided to precede this journey with a gala breakfast in Jodhpur itself. So we headed straight to the famous Janta Sweet Shop. It truly amazed me to see atleast 50 people standing there and having breakfast. I felt like Charlie in Wili Wonka’s chocolate factory with so many goodies on offer around me.

I could see many sweets – Ghevar, laddoo’s, Ras Malai, Badam Milk, Kaju Rolls etc, but since I was in Rajasthan so ghevar was my obvious choice. And for savoury I picked Mawa Kachouri and my favourite Mirchi Vada. I went click click click here and there and people went crazy watching this girl click pictures first before she even laid her hands on food.

I had my first bite of the kachaudi, and without a doubt I can tell you its the best kachaudi I have ever had. Awesome is an understatement. Such a crunch, so crisp, and the filling was just fabulous. The mirchi Vada was such a heart stealer, if you love green chilli, this item will be your hero, as it became mine.

Post the hearty breakfast I geared up myself for the 300km drive, the scenery on the way was breath taking. I have posted some pictures for you all to see. We headed to Kulbhalgarh which is in Kelwara district about 300 odd kilometres from Jodhpur. Kumbhalgarh is the birthplace of a famous Rajput ruler Maharana Pratap, and its interesting to note that I share the same day and month of birth with the Maharana ie 9th of May, Yippie!

Kumbhalgarh has the famous Kumbhalgarh fort, which is the only monument that can be seen from space after the Great Wall of China. The Fort is magnificent, but will talk about it tomorrow. The national highway merges into a state highway towards Kumbhalgarh which is quite patchy at a number of places, and goes through villages big and small, mountains, and small hills. Overall it makes for a beautiful drive.

It took us about 6 hours to reach Kumbhalgarh from Jodhpur since one has to go through a two lane highway which converges finally into an almost single lane state highway. We landed at the Club Mahindra Kumbhalgarh which is so so beautiful as a property, located far from the madness and hustle bustle of the main city. An ideal place to chill and relax.
